  • Bill Burnham

Approach
  • On departing Belfast, we will head NE around Turtle Head, the northern tip of Islesboro Island.
  • The course then turns SE down the Penobscot River to then round Head of the Cape toward the beginning of Eggemoggin.
  • The W approach to the storied Eggemoggin Reach is a bit tortuous with a number of islands and shoal to be piloted around — but the scenery is well worth the effort.
  • The picturesque entrance to Bucks Harbor lies to the N on entering the Reach.
  • See the Proposed Route Chart below.

  • Anchorage:  There is an anchorage just to the E of the E entrance channel that will hold 4 to 10 boats.  The center area had depths >20’ with a shallower area along the periphery.  Many of the Windjammers use this anchorage during the peak of the summer season.  SV Onward has anchored as the lone vessel only to come back from a visit ashore with 3 Windjammers as neighbors.  Fun to listen to their music and watch their “rituals”.
  • An image from a Garmin-Navionics Sonar Chart of the anchorage is shown below to aid participants in selecting an anchor spot.
  • Launch Service:  None in local area.

Mooring Assignments
  • When Annual Cruise Planning Began, the marina was contacted and agreed to hold all moorings for the Corinthians Fleet.
  • Skippers were advised to contact the marina and make a request as a Fleet Member
  • The marina then matched request for moorings with those available and assigned them on the basis of the order in which the request was made and then the availability of a mooring that could hold a vessel with that LOA and draft
  • Apparently the Bucks Harbor Harbormaster has taken to moving moorings about and this has affected the number of moorings assigned to the Fleet.
  • On 30 July the marina provided an updated list of mooring assignments posted below
